Sažetak
Different types of fibrous materials are successfully used for equipment, footwear and apparel in the field of sports. Elite athletes require continuous innovations in high performance sportswear to be higher, faster and stronger to have the edge over their competitor and the consumer demand for performance sportswear is increasing. The trends of textile technology in sportswear tend to be in the reduction of drag, enhancement of comfort-related properties, and integration of wearable electronics. Textile technologies that are addressed to engineer performance sportswear are fibrous materials, fabric technologies, mulitfunctional textiles, and optimized constructions. The performance swimwear market is an interesting case study since the introduction of Speedo's LZR Racer swimsuit lead to numerous world records on the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
