Sažetak
The Directorate-General for Enterprise and Industry (DG E&I) is one of the eighteen Departments of the European Commission, which itself is the institution of the European Union. The DG E&I is the key player in the development and implementation of the European economic growth and employment strategy. The main task of the DG E&I is to support the small and medium – sized enterprises in the European Union, to manage the internal EU market for goods and services to the benefit of EU industry and citizens, to promote the European growth and jobs strategy, to increase the sustainable competitiveness of the EU industry and similar. To realize this goals the DG E&I supervises the development of about 33 various industrial sectors in EU such as chemicals, automotive industry, biotechnology, electrical equipment, pharmaceutical industry, food industry, tourism industry, etc. The potential of tourism to generate employment and economic growth at the EU level has been recognized by establishing the Tourism Unit – a body specialized for tourism at the European Commission. Tourism Unit analyses and monitors the competitive situation of the tourism industry at national level and on internal market and prepares and manages legislation and other important measures for its development in the European Union that is presented on their website.
