Sažetak
Reactive oxygene species (ROS) are formed in excess during oxidative stress. Among them, hydroxyl radical is one of the most harmful compounds. Hydroxyl radical forms stable adducts with salicylic acid through process of aromatic hydroxylation generating 2, 3-dihydroxybenzoic acid (2, 3-DHBA) which can be separated and quantified by HPLC method with electrochemical detection. We have developed method for 2, 3-DHBA determination which can be used for both human and rat experiments, using 20 mg/kg body weight per os application of acetylsalicylic acid. Animal experiment had shown that increase in 2, 3-DHBA production can be seen in animals surgically treated by abdominal cavity opening (laparatomy). This experiment was basis for further investigation of oxidative stress in particular related to surgery.
