Sažetak
More than twenty renal/urinary calculi that had been obtained from one patient over a period of several months were analyzed by X-ray powder diffraction. Preliminary analysis of the as-obtained and of the powdered calculi showed complex mixtures of organic and inorganic materials, including for example, uric acid C5H4N4O3, calcium phosphate - carbonate apatite Ca10(PO4)3(CO3)3(OH)2, whewellite - calcium oxalate monohydrate CaC2O4H2O, weddellite - calcium oxalate dihydrate CaC2O42H2O, struvite - magnesium ammonium phosphate hexahydrate MgNH4PO46H2O. However, diffaction patterns of the powdered samples showed differences, suggesting that composition of the calculi was variable. Further investigation on the variability of the calculi phase composition may give important conclusions in monitoring lifestyle changes by determining causal relationships with, for example, dietary or exercise regime changes, courses of medication, changes in body chemistry, etc.
