Sažetak
Aims: As the knowledge and care attitudes regarding their own dental care progresses during the education of the dental student, he or she is expected to have acquired stable oral health habits by the final years of the undergraduate programme. It should result in better oral health comparing to other students at same level of the education process. The aim of this study was to compare caries prevalence between year four undergraduate dental students and other students of the University of Zagreb. Materials and Methods: The study group consists of 112 students of year four, including 56 dental students and 56 students of other faculties of the University of Zagreb. Caries prevalence was assessed according to the criterion issued by World Health Organization (WHO) using a DMFT (Decayed, Missing and Filled Teeth) Index. The data were statistically analyzed by Student t-test. Results: The mean DMFT percent among four year dental students was 6.52, while the mean DMFT among other students was 9.55. The difference was statistically significant (t=3, 666, p<0, 001). Conclusions: Results of this study indicate lower prevalence of caries among dental student in comparison to other students of the final years. Education and preventive measures are needed to improve oral health among all students of the University of Zagreb
