Sažetak
It is a review of the first critical edition of the Obsidio Iadrensis, an important work of medieval Croatian historiography. The main topic of this work is the Venetian siege of Zadar in 1345-1346. Its author, not known by name, personally took part in the events which he described, and that enabled him to give vivid and detailed picture of them. The author was very well informed in the wider political context significantly influencing described events. He provides the reader with a quantity of information on details of military equipment, certain ceremonies connected to the deposition of Venetian rule, negotiations during the conflict, military actions of the army of king Louis of Hungary-Croatia, the reestablishment of Venetian government after the siege, the topography of medieval Zadar and its surroundings. The work on editing of the Obsidio Iadrensis was started by classical philologist Veljko Gortan in the 1970s, but was interrupted by his death. It was edited by a group of classical philologists and historians. The edition of the Latin text is accompanied by Croatian translation, introductory studies, a chronology of events, critical apparatus and explanatory footnotes, indices and bibliography. Introductory studies and the chronology are given in Croatian and English languages.
