Sažetak
The aim of this study was to evaluate successfulness of elimination of the total bacteria count (CFU) ex vivo and successfulness of elimination of the bacteria Streptococcus mutans ATCC 33402 and Lactobacillus paracasei ATCC 11974 ex vivo. From 20 patients aged between 7 and 18, during clinical work, the samples of cariogenic dentine from deep lesions were taken ex vivo, before and after the treatment with ozone. The dentine samples were deposited in the transport media for transportation of microbiological samples type Stuart, and afterwards microbiologically treated to ascertain the influence of ozone on the total bacteria count (CFU) and on the bacteria Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus paracasei. The results showed decrease of the total bacteria count (CFU) for 72, 16 %. The reduction of Streptococcus mutans, after the use of ozone, was 71, 49 %, and of Lactobacillus paracasei 61, 36 %. All results showed statistically significant difference in the number of bacteria, before and after the ozone treatment (p > 0, 05). Ozone is very useful disinfectant and can successfully eliminate most of cariogenic bacteria in the sample of human dentine in ex vivo conditions. Because of its antimicrobial properties, its usage is recommendable in the therapy of deep carious lesions as cavity disinfectant.
