Sažetak
Present and future of the VTS, as well as the basic elements of VTS, has been considered. New technologies, which are being introduced or are under consideration, are closely connected with the integrated bridge. VTS should be introduced in any region where the introduction is justified, because of safety of people and property, and especially environment. The most important tasks performed by VTS concern the safety of vessels and people, efficiency of maritime traffic, protection of environment, and search and rescue operations. VTS can also be used in the safeguarding of borders. The subject of constant debate is a possible introduction of VTS into Adriatic Sea. The most interesting is the proposal for introduction of VTS in the Palagruža region.
