Sažetak
Analysis of the selected Aboriginal novels published in the period between 1987 and 2001 has revealed that some Aboriginal authors use magical realism as narrative strategy in their writing. As it is argued, for formal detection of magical realism, the reader does not need to know culture-specific background of Aboriginal prose text because paragraphs marked by a shift from the so-called “ known” mimesis are signalled by narrator(s) or character(s) in the same manner as in other non-Aboriginal novels appropriating the same technique of writing. However, on the level of content, magical realism in Aboriginal fiction, or more specifically novel, tends to differ from novels written by authors coming from, e.g., Europe, Canada, Latin America, Central and West Africa or New Zealand. This is due to the fact that semantic potential of other mimesis presented in the work is based on traditional Aboriginal belief, i.e. the Dreaming, and hence represents a very specific marker of Aboriginal text. Accordingly, the analysis of works has shown that what is common to all writers appropriating narratological potential of magical realism, notwithstanding their location of writing, is the very formal layout of magical realism or its discursive realization. On the other hand, on the level of content, it seems that authors tend to construct the “ magical” segment of the text according to their specific cultural heritage. This ostensible “ choice” of the content of the “ magical component” is to a great degree determined by the location from which each author writes.
