Sažetak
He prevalence of allergic diseases, notably allergic asthma (AA), allergic rhinitis (AR) and atopic dermatitis (AD) has increased in recent decades, especially in the industrialized countries. During the past 20 years there is increased epidemiological evidence that obesity has also increased. Obesity and overweight are great public health problem not only in developed countries, but also in developing societies, considering that morbidity and mortality are much more frequent in obese people. High body mass index (BMI) is a risk for heard disease, stroke, atherosclerosis, hypertension, insulin resistance, dyslipidemia, some type of cancers. There is increasing epidemiological evidence that obesity and overweight are linked to allergic diseases. Adipokines secreted by white adipose tissue may induce immunological changes, resulting with decreased immunological tolerance. So far there has been identified over 50 adipokines secreted by white adipose tissue, some of which are cytokines such as TNF. and IL-6. The link between obesity and allergic diseases is not completely understood. Existing evidence should be considered, but further investigations are need for clear understanding the role of adipokines in induction of allergic diseases.
