In the paper the author addresses the presence and the cultural relevance of dreck in the writings of D. Bartheleme. He takes issue with those who believe that thesere is an adversarial stance in the texts. The author looks at what he sees as Barthelme's emotional attachment to the consumerism of today's American culture.
