Sažetak
Histochemical localization of non-specific esterase, alkaline and acid phosphatase as well as aminopeptidase in intestines of free-living Thicklip gray mullet (Chelon labrosus, Risso 1826) from Adriatic Sea (Croatia) was investigated. Samples of four parts of the intestines: anterior (C1), middle (C2), posterior (C3) and the rectum (R) were subjected to enzymatic activity investigation. Moderate activity of all investigated enzymes was observed in the first (C1) segment with the exclusion of non-specific esterase whose activity was strong. Strong activity of all investigated enzymes was observed in the middle (C2) segment. In the posterior (C3) segment the activity of non-specific esterase, alkaline and acid phosphatase was moderate, while the activity of aminopeptidase was strong. Low activity of all investigated enzymes was found in the rectum (R). The intensity of the enzymatic activity of non-specific esterase, alkaline and acid phosphatase gradually decreased towards the posterior regions of the intestines. The activity of aminopeptidase was stronger in the C2 and C3 segments than in the C1 and R segment. The present study suggests that C1 and C2 segments of the intestines participate more intensely in lipid absorption and intracellular digestion than other segments. Activity of nonspecific esterase was very strong in the posterior part of the intestines. At the same time, comparatively stronger activity of alkaline phosphatase in the C1 suggests that the enterocyte absorptive activity is less effective towards the caudal intestinal segments. The aminopeptidase activity was stronger in the C2 and C3 segments, which suggests that they participate in intracellular protein digestion and absorption.
