Sažetak
Renewable energy use has arising trend due to many factors during the last years. It has a major role in sustainable development concept through reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Economical competitiveness of renewable energy constantly increases because of continuous development of new and improved technologies and because of the growth of energy prices form conventional sources. Small photovoltaic (PV) systems are decentralized renewable energy systems for production of electric energy. They are primarily intended for using in households and small living buildings but they can be effectively joined to the present electro energetic grid. Grid-connected PV systems became very interesting in EU and Croatia after the stimulated prices according to new regulations for repurchase of electric energy from renewable sources are adopted. The aim of presented paper is to analyze the repayment conditions of investment for a small grid-connected PV system. Analyses are made by using of computer software HOMER. Technical analysis includes sizing of equipment and energy production possibilities from solar resources for chosen location. Economical analysis through study of project profitability shows that the investment to the sized PV system is returnable in present market conditions only if the time value of money is not taking into consideration. With that impact calculated net present value of money is not favourable within considered time periods. The project could become more cost-effective with additional incentives (i.e. subventions of interest rate on loans, value-added tax or other tax facilitations) or with higher stimulated price for purchase of electrical energy produced in PV system. The analyses show that it is necessary to consider introducing some additional stimulation concepts, especially because the PV systems are ecologically very competitive. They do not produce any greenhouse gases in their work and thus they do not induce any load to the environment. The only greenhouse gas emission related to PV system is that connected with the energy used for the production process of PV cells but it can be significantly reduced with the development of new PV cells technologies. Therefore, the introduction of greenhouse gases emissions trading schemes, which is planned for the future, could also help PV projects to become more profitable.
