Sažetak
In order to improve business performance, shipyards need to reduce the levels of non-conformance and failure costs. In an attempt to combat high quality costs and improve product quality in general, shipyards usually opt for some kind of quality assurance registration, such as with ISO 9000. The one of the mandatory clauses of ISO 9001:2000 standard is 8.5.3. Preventive action. Any ISO 9001 certified company “ … shell determine action to eliminate the cause of potential nonconformities in order to prevent occurrence.” The most cost-effective action one can take in any organization is an action designed to prevent problems from occurring. Preventive action, therefore, saves money even though there is a price to pay for the discovery of potential nonconformities. The paper is dealing with main concepts of quality improvement through reliability based assessment of potential failure modes, non-conformity causes and preventive actions. The FMEA procedure is presented as one of powerful process and product analysis tools used to increase system quality and reliability through identification of potential failure modes and determination of the effect of each on system performance.
