Sažetak
In this article the preliminary results on the biological durability of oil heat treated (OHT) alder wood (Alnus glutinosa L.) against white rot fungus Trametes versicolor (on “ mini blocks” according to EN 113) are presented. Modification was performed by immersion of the mini blocks in the vegetable oil and heated 6 respectively 10 hours at 180 º C. In addition, the natural durability of beech as the referent test wood species was measured and then compared with the alder one. Weight percentage gain (WPG) caused by modification and mass loss of wood (dm) during fungal nutrition were measured. WPG of modified alder wood was 10.4 % after 6 hours and 9.5 % after 10 hours of modification. Results showed increased durability of modified wood: 38.4 % after 6 hours, respectively 56.2 % after 10 hours. Results also approved that the alder natural durability is significantly lower than the beech one. OHT is a simple method with whom the durability of wood against white rot fungus can be improved. But in the same time the mechanical properties are decreased.
