Sažetak
The application of the streaming potential method to access information about the effect of washing of protein an pigment stained raw cotton fabrics is described. The reproducible packing of cotton fabrics in the measuring cell of the electrokinetic analyzer enables the determination of an apparent but reliable zeta potential, which is used as an indicator for the washing efficiency. The zeta potential results are compared with the remission values obtained for the stained and washed cotton fabrics. While the protein stained fabric shows complex surface properties, the pigment soiled sample resembles the zeta potential of scoured cotton. None of the contaminants are removed completely using a standard detergent even after raising the bath temperature to 90°C.
