Sažetak
Since the electrokinetic (zeta) potential is a part of integral potential decay at the solid/liquid boundary, it senses any significant change originating from the surface charge carriers (e.g. small or large ions, inorganic or organic, ionic ligands, complexes, etc), their surface concentration, distribution and sign, absorption and desorption, etc. Various stages of pretreatment and treatment of textile fibers during their processing and finishing can be characterized by the electrokinetic data. It includes, for instance, the purification processes, adsorption and/or adhesion of surfactants, dyestuffs, soil particles etc, as well as, surface modifications due to chemical reactions, efficiency of treatments, such as mercerization etc. Zeta potential at the textile fibers/solution interface is commonly measured by streaming potential or streaming current technique. The role of zeta potential, convenience and limitations of the method, on several examples in the field of textile processing, will be discussed.
