Sažetak
The column method using a fixed bed of zeolite clinoptilolite was used to remove lead and zinc ions from single and binary metal ions solutions. The raw zeolite sample used in this study was obtained from the Vranjska Banja deposit (Serbia) and contained more than 80% of clinoptilolite. Experiments were carried out in glass columns filled with 2.9 g of the zeolite sample to the bed depth of 40 mm. The breakthrough curve of the service cycle has an Sshape for the single ion solution, and zinc is bound in higher quantities compared to lead. In binary solutions, lead and zinc ions bind simultaneously on the zeolite bed, and as the service cycle progresses, lead ions displace a great portion of the bound zinc. During the regeneration cycle, the quantity of desorbed lead is significantly higher than the quantity of zinc, which indicates that mostly lead ions were bound on the zeolite. This is due to the higher affinity of zeolite for lead ions and their antagonistic behaviour towards zinc ions. Key words: clinoptilolite, lead, zinc, fixed bed, binary solution.
