Sažetak
Tourism of 21st century is transforming into an industry of events, experiences, animation and active holidaymaking. Change to tourism supply and demand is becoming more dynamic and rapid. Instead of merely keeping abreast of demand, tourism supply should seek to be one step ahead of it by innovating facilities and services. Crucial activities in attracting increasingly discerning tourist involve promoting attractions and creating events. Croatia and Opatija have not yet recognised the importance of events in profiling the tourism offering with the aim of enabling year-round operations and attaining competitiveness. Not only should events become a key link in the process of selecting a destination but they should also result in profit. Event planning calls for a new generation of event and leisure managers.
