Sažetak
Tracking developments in Tourism, as one of the sectors that drives environmental change, helps to understand the driving forces behind the changes in the environment that is observed, and gives pointers as to where action should be taken to mitigate the negative effects of human activities on the environment. The chapter presents an overview of trends in tourism, associated environmental impacts and policy progress. The impact of tourism is projected to increase as a result of greater affluence, lifestyle and demographic change, and growing incomes. Tourism at peak periods overwhelms the carrying capacity of some destinations. Tourist behaviour remains a crucial factor for sustainability.
