Sažetak
The report after the end of pivotal phase of the mentioned research in which 18% patients (14 of 79) in the rhBMP-2 group had transient localized areas of bone remodeling drew our attention. A more careful examination of the pilot phase report, i.e., Figure 10, showed unreported resorption of vertebral bodies adjacent to the allograft 6 months following surgery (Figure 1). Possible effects of not revealing the unanticipated adverse findings are numerous. Fortunately, a clinical significance in this case seems to be negligible since, by the words of the authors, all 18% of patients with increased bone resorption healed 24 months after the surgery.
