Sažetak
The popularization of science plays a significant role in university education today, but it is also relevant for the general public as an aspect of lifelong learning. A particular model of popularization of science has been proposed by means of the ALIS project “ Popularization of Science and Communication of Science in Media” and scibars incorporated within it. When we started the scibar project, the main question was how to bring scientists and general public together and motivate both of them to communicate. The important issue is to bridge the gap in communication between scientists and general public. Then we started to choose the speakers and topics of our events. We knew that speakers on scibar must have good presentation and communication skills, must be effective and relaxed communicators and aware of ethical implications of their work. They also should be able to discuss not to lecture and be prepared to admit the limitations. Challenges of this project are to reach better public perception and understanding of science and technology, better knowledge and bigger interest in general. We tried to raise awareness and different attitude towards science and technology and higher level of understanding scientific issues in general audience. The topics are relevant and interesting to audience ; events must be good organized because of marketing and publicity. At the end, we had a lot of questions for discussion. Scibar took place at the Faculty cafeteria, and in that way we bring lots of people outside the university, interested in scibar topics, into the faculty building. We have support of local government and local media as well. The survey has shown that the audience is generally very satisfied with the organization and the topics selected. Public also suggests the topics and speakers for next scibar, so they have active role in creating the whole process of popularization of science.
