Sažetak
In this paper is presented the sanitary quality of the Bay of Kastela, examining in particular the concentrations of indicators of faecal pollution entering the Bay via waste waters. Special attention has been paid to the group of heterotrophic bacteria which play the main role in the decomposition of organic matter. Values of bacterioplankton biomass and density of heterotrophic bacteria in the Bay are for an order of magnitude higher than those in the open sea.
