Sažetak
During the last ten years ureter morphology and urodynamics have been investigated on dynamic scans with 99m Tc mercaptoacetyltriglycine (MAG3). Of 2000 patients, more than 60% were children. We have noted three patterns of ureteric imaging and urodynamics:
1. Ureters are not displayed on both sides or are barely visible, without a clearly identified peristaltic wave. Urodynamics is uniform and of adequate velocity in all ureteral segments.
2. One or both ureters of a patient are delineated distinctly and with high intensity in their whole length. No segmental peristaltic wave is differentiated. Urodynamics is uniform and slower.
3. One or both ureters show one or more dilated segments (boluses) of a marked intensity. They persist on the same location and act as urine "collectors". From time to time they "spastically discharge" and immediately after emptying fill up again, significantly slowing down urodynamics of the segment. The remaining ureter segment, located distally to this peristaltic "reservoir", may be of variable length, and during the whole dynamic study (30 min.) shows no signs of dilatation. Urodynamics in this segment is of higher velocity.
This pattern of ureter presentation and its flow rates on MAG3 scans differs from what has so far been known to us, especially about a propulsion of a peristaltic wave.
