Sažetak
Small area load forecasting is a foundation for distribution system planning. Simple trending methods proved to be most popular for load growth extrapolation due to their simplicity and low cost. The greatest problem of trending arises from the fact that load often develops in previously vacant areas with no load history. This paper discusses the load growth behavior, describes trending procedures and forecast improvement methods, and emphasizes on Vacant Area Inference - a procedure that predicts the growth rate in previously vacant areas. The model is tested on simulated area. Future research is discussed.
