Sažetak
The rural areas in the hinterland of Istria represent a great potential for the development of various selective forms of tourism. There are multiple reasons for this: the vicinity of the sea ; the vicinity of tourism generating markets ; the region is environmentally well preserved and unbuilt ; a richness of cultural, historical and natural attractions ; the eno-gastronomic offering ; resources for ecological food production. However, considering that some parts of rural Istria have better conditions and resources than others, the authors of this paper have made an in-depth research and analysis of all resources for the development of various forms of rural tourism and propose the division of rural Istria into clusters. The entire rural region can be divided into three clusters: the Sub-coastal Cluster, the Central Cluster and the Highland Cluster. For each of these clusters, the authors will propose a rural tourism development model and scenario.
