Sažetak
What is more frivolous than fashion? At first sight, probably, an answer is nothing. But, serious contemplation about fashion as a complex social phenomenon opens a lot of questions and problems of contemporary reality. Fashion is a complex system consisted of countless components and their mutual influences. It’ s a reflection of history, tradition, economical situation, commonplace problems, cultural pattern change and taboo subversion, but above all, the stream of fashion changes is not possible to predict. Basic principle of fashion is transience, although paradoxically because all the time fashion goes back to past – constant revival – and its turned to present. There is no determinism in fashion, because imperceptibly small starting causes can have a strong impact on future happening, regardless of previous flow and known starting conditions (theory of deterministic chaos). Until recently considered as class fashion, separating the upper class from lower and connecting people of the same classes, the fashion exponentially penetrates in all pores of contemporary society, both fashion in narrow sense (clothes), and fashion in wider sense (cars, flats, computers, food, etc.). Fashion is one of communication forms between an individual and a group, an individual and a society, a social class and a social class, one sex and the other one. Mass expenditure and consumption society have found its foothold in fashion. Because of the global blasé-ness, which abandoned metropolises long time ago and spread out in all corners of the “ western civilization” , and because of earnings-occupation, fashion has become escapism and illusion. Well, who can resist beautiful, extravagant and unrestrained models calling us to themselves only by buying a perfume from Channel’ s newest collection? Explained from discourse of different theories, anthropological, functionalistic and psychoanalytic, sociological definition of fashion is a way, a form of behaving in some districts of social life, which people keep in certain time. After an introduction to the most influential theories of sociology of fashion, we will analyze with a sociological approach how to interpret meanings of this part of material culture.
