Sažetak
Last decade saw the formation and establishment of wine roads as part of tourist offer in rural Istria, which corresponded with the process of significant improvement in the production of quality wines. A phenomenologically absolutely new approach was developed towards the culture of enjoying wines. All over the Istrian peninsula, along its wine roads, appeared about eighty, either new or restored wine cellars, which host numerous tourists who visit them every day, tasting and buying mostly Istrian specialties like malvazija, muškat, teran, refošk or borgonja, but also pinot, merlot, cabernet sauvignon etc. The abundance of tourist offer in the form of wine roads is shown in the existence of six organized wine roads in the areas of Buje, Poreč, Buzet, Rovinj, Vodnjan, and Pazin. Olive oil roads were modelled on the successful wine roads project. Their roots could be found in the Roman times which left written records of the production of famed olive oil. Since the Mediterranean and continental climates collide in Istria, it is the nothernmost part of Mediterranean where olives still thrive. The yields are lower than elsewhere but the oils they produce are of incomparable quality. Due to the ideal geographic position and all other factors that, together with olive processing and production of oil, influence its quality, Istria is gradually but safely turning into a top "olive destination". This aim will undoubtedly be helped by the existence of six organized olive oil roads in the areas of Buje, Poreč, Buzet, Pazin, Rovinj, and Vodnjan, where we can find about thirty producers of quality olive oil. The main objectives of all olive itineraries include the promotion of olives, olive oil, and other products made with olives and their tourist presentation consisting of reevaluation and development of and care for olive production in Istria. Ecological honey, i.e. honey produced in an ecological manner is the latest of novelties among the agricultural products on offer in rural Istria. Ecological honey is produced in beehives under constant surveillance of a supervisory station. In its production it is forbidden to administer any drugs for purposes of prevention, the hive has to be made of natural materials and painted with ecological colours, the apiary has to be far enough from potential pollutants (factories, roads, arable land) so that the bees could produce honey of the highest possible quality. This creates an enormous additional expense which is then reflected in the honey's final price as well, but the consumers are positive that by buying such honey they get a natural product of high quality. So far only a few ecological honey producers have been recorded in Istria.
