National energy program BIOEN (Biomass and Waste Use Program) has the aim of providing permanent care for the use of biomass and waste for energy production and environment. In the first phase, the most important achievement is an expert assessment of the energy potential of biomass and waste and woody biomass from forests and wood industry. This paper deals only with technical potential of biomass for energy production and calculations was made only for available resources for actual design of biomasses energy plants. Total technical energy potential of biomass for energy production in Croatia was estimated on 34.4 PJ/a.
