Sažetak
This paper will deal with children's perception of humour in media in view of their linguistic and communication development. Therefore, the media representation of humour elements and categories, including both examples of direct and indirect humour, will be inquired into in order to determine the effectiveness of animated production regarding the representation and clarification of the aforementioned concepts. For this purpose the research will focus on the Disney/Pixar production of animated films, more specifically the analysis of several segments from the animated picture Finding Nemo (2003), with the purpose of detecting the types of humour involved. Moreover, the "domesticating" synchronized translation of selected scenes into the Croatian language will additionally reveal specific solutions to cultural concepts in children's media culture. Consequently, it will be investigated which linguistic and cultural solutions are offered as an alternative to the original dialogue of the animated picture. Finally, it will be shown that the secret of the international success of the Disney/Pixar production lies in the ability to present culturally diverse material saturated with humorous use of dialect, slang and puns, which is successfully translatable into other languages and their cultural contexts and as such has a stimulating impact on children.
