Sažetak
A preservation of natural materials is crucial for an ecologically responsible and sustainable building. This kind of building implies a usage of materials that can be used without any negative impact on the environment. This paper presents an aspect of sustainable building through the possibilities of using a waste material from the tile industry, and from the masonry buildings removal, as an aggregate in concrete and mortar. At this way, it is possible to reduce the problem of construction and demolition waste storage and to reduce the consumption of regular aggregate as a natural material. In the paper is presented a review of important properties of concrete and mortar made with crushed clay brick and tiles as an aggregate. Furthermore, the preliminary experimental investigation of some physical and mechanical properties of mortar made with crushed clay tiles as an aggregate is carried out. Obtained workability, density, compressive strength and flexural strength are compared with the same properties of mortar made with regular aggregate. A utilization of mentioned waste material in practice contributes to the waste management and protection of natural resources, but it also produces a new value through the new material.
