Sažetak
Glassy TE-TL alloys (TE=Ti, Zr, Hf and TL=Co, Ni, Cu) have been extensively studied in recent decades [1] and interest in these alloys further increased after the discovery of TE-TL base bulk metallic glasses (BMG) [2]. In these alloys wide glass-forming range (20-70 at % TL) enables detailed study of the change in the electronic structure and properties on alloying, thus through comparison between the model and experiment. The electronic density of states (DOS) in TE-TL glassy alloys shows split-band structure [1] with DOS at the Fermi level, N(EF), dominated with TE d-states. Thus, the effect of alloying with TL can be approximated with dilution of TE and all properties directly related to N(EF) show simple, often linear variation with TL content. Here, we review the correlation between the DOS and superconducting, magnetic and thermal (electronic specific heat coefficient) properties of Zr-TL alloys and show that DOS also affects the mechanical properties and stability of these alloys [3]. We also provide new data for Ti-TL and Hf-TL glassy alloys which show the same simple correlation between DOS and physical properties and also show systematic changes in going for 3d to 5d transition metal series. Finally, we use these results in order to deduce the DOS and properties of hypothetic pure amorphous Zr, Ti and Hf. [1] H. Beck and H.-J. Güntherodt (Editors), Glassy Metals III.
