Sažetak
Nowadays, mobility is one of the basic components of a high-quality urban living. Over the past few decades, the cities have developed and a population has grown rapidly. Consequently, motorization and traffic have also increased. As a result, some parts of the city network are often blocked and it is necessary to find the most efficient solution for improving the quality of traffic flows. There are several ways of increasing the street network capacity. They are either building measures or traffic management measures. The building measures are construction of a new traffic infrastructure or reconstruction of the existing one. On the other hand, the traffic management measures are optimization of traffic lights' functioning, operating the traffic from the traffic centre, dynamic control of traffic and other ITS measures. This research paper presents the influence of two simple measures, optimization of traffic lights functioning and coordination of traffic lights phases, on the increase of degree of street network utilization. To serve the needs of research, two busy and often clogged intersections with traffic lights in Split have been analyzed. The research aim was to show that it is possible to improve the traffic flow in the street network with quite simple and cheap measures.
