Sažetak
In dry machining of of magnesium the material build-up on the flank surfaces of cutting tools (flank build-up, FBU) may exhibit an important restriction in raising the cutting speed. With the use of water based emulsions the FBU was completely eleiminated within the examined cutting speed range. When magnesim comes in contact with water hydrogen gas will be developed which is flammable and explosive in mixture eith air. For that reason the water based emulsions are not recommended in machining of magnesium alloys. This investigation show that only small quantities of hydrogen are generated in the cutting process and that hydrogen can be easily removed from the machine tool and actual surroundings.
