Sažetak
In the past ten years, research activities in the field of digital radiology and medical image management have developed very rapidly. Hospitals imaging departments, when networking CT and MR modalities, take advantage of digitally achieved volumes of clinical information. Systems containing dozens of hospitals and health care facilities provide cost-saving opportunities through the centralisation of expertise, the use of automation, and the sharing of information via networks. Still image archiving systems and reference data bases, multiple access to distributed information banks, video servers and advanced co-operative working methods, such as remote expert consultation by video conferencing, will be introduced in future broadband network. This paper considers some aspects of the evolution from today"s networks to ATM-based networks and tries to correlate them to obtain a broad view of the future ATM environment for telemedicine. Also we present some aspects of medical image compression as well as evaluation of compression algorithms for medical imaging and video.
