Sažetak
The development of new information and communication technologies as well as the need to use them anyplace and anytime, primarily within the cities, have imposed the necessity of adapting the urban structures from the passive role of the telecommunication service users to the active role of telecommunication service providers. The "Digital City" concept enables generation of profit by commercial users, and savings in telecommunication costs of governmental and municipal services and institutions. The availability of telecommunication services is of extreme importance for the smooth flow of all traffic modes in the cities. The traffic systems of the future require constant interaction of vehicles or pedestrians with the infrastructure or central point of control in order to enhance the quality of service, optimize traffic, and raise the safety level. Apart from the mentioned basic functions, infrastructure and communication potentials enable development of additional services tailored to every specific segment of the traffic system.
