Sažetak
Abutilon theophrasti (velvetleaf) is a new weed in Croatia, increasing and spreading rapidly since 1980. Owing to the significant damage it can cause to arable crops, it is now considered an aggressive weed and potentially serious problem in Croatia. Resistance to atrazine has been reported in velvetleaf, and other herbicides vary in effectiveness to control this plant. Management of this weed may include or indeed come to center around the development of microbial biological control agents. Since 1995, we have surveyed velvetleaf in Croatia and identified the fungi that infect it as an initial step in developing a biological control strategy. Results of this survey are given, including descriptions of three common fungi from diseased velvetleaf in Croatia, Colletotrichum coccodes, Plasmopara skvortzovii, and Phoma exigua var. exigua
