Sažetak
Originally, the Bohmian interpretation of quantum mechanics (QM) has been proposed with the intention to provide a simple intuitive hidden-variable explanation of otherwise counterintuitive predictions of QM. It has been constructed for nonrelativistic QM, such that the measurable statistical predictions coincide with those of standard QM. As such, this interpretation is widely ignored in physics community and accused for belonging to philosophy rather than science. In addition, this interpretation seems incompatible with relativity and the phenomena of particle creation and destruction. Nevertheless, all these weaknesses of the original version of the Bohmian interpretation can be surmounted. A relativistic covariant version of the Bohmian equation of motion for particle trajectories can be introduced in a rather simple and elegant way. For bosonic particles it leads to superluminal velocities and motions backwards in time, but in a manner that does not contradict the principle of relativity or the existing experimental data. Still, under certain subtle conditions, it leads to measurable predictions that cannot be obtained with the standard interpretation, making relativistic Bohmian mechanics testable. The problem of particle creation and destruction in Bohmian mechanics can be solved in an elegant manner by assuming that particles are sligtly extended objects. This provides a new theoretical argument for validity of string theory, which, in turn, is a good candidate for a "theory of everything". The unification of string theory with Bohmian mechanics predicts that fermionic particles must move along similar trajectories as the bosonic ones, leading to similar measurable predictions as those for bosons. This opens a possibility to construct a low energy experiment that tests both Bohmian mechanics and string theory at once.
