Sažetak
In recent years a strong development in factory automation has been witnessed requiring a harmonious interworking of a large number of mostly heterogeneous numerically controlled (NC) machines. Within the OSI framework the problem of achieving interworking of distributed application processes has been tackled with in the application layer by using Manufacturing Message Specification (MMS). MMS defines an object-based model that is used for deriving abstract representations of real manufacturing devices as well as the respective service definition and protocol specification. One of the issues to be dealt with when building MMS conformant applications is certainly the Application Programming Interface (API) enabling the inclusion of MMS services in applications. In this paper an approach to MMS protocol and API realization is described and compared to guidelines given by the ESPRIT Consortium CCE-CNMA.
