Sažetak
The marshland vegetation of the class Phragmito-Magnocaricetea in the Plitvice Lakes National Park was studied during 2004, 2005 and 2006 in accordance with the Braun-Blanquet methodology. The communities are understood in terms of the traditional syntaxonomic system based on the diagnostic and/or dominant species. As a result of field work, 61 relevés were made, and 13 communities have been established: Caricetum elatae, Caricetum paniculatae, Caricetum rostratae, Cladietum marisci, Eleocharitetum uniglumis, Equisetetum fluviatilis, Glycerietum plicatae, Phalaridetum arundinaceae, Phragmitetum australis, Scirpetum lacustris, Sparganietum erecti, Typhetum latifoliae and Veronica beccabunga community. For the sake of comparison, the marshland vegetation of the Plitvice Lakes has already been investigated by Šegulja (2005), but as a result only five communities were established. The most widespread association of the investigated area is Phragmitetum australis, whose spread also shows the negative effect of overgrowth on other wetland vegetation of lower growth. The Plitvice Lakes National Park does not belong to typical marshland. On the contrary, the basic features of the investigated area are the mountain streams and the karstic lakes. Such habitats enable the development of rare types of marshland vegetation, some of which have been noted in Croatia only in the territory of the Plitvice Lakes, such as Caricetum rostratae, Eleocharitetum uniglumis and Equisetetum fluviatilis. At the same time, in this work, these communities are presented for the first time for Croatia. On the basis of general distribution in Croatia and threat to habitat, it was determined that the following five assocations are the most endangered of those found in the Plitvice Lakes National Park: Caricetum paniculatae, Caricetum rostratae, Eleocharitetum uniglumis, Equisetetum fluviatilis and Glycerietum plicatae.
