Sažetak
The following research discusses the nature of public speaking anxiety (PSA) and the possibility of controlling PSA by means of improvisation theater techniques. The data were obtained through an experiment conducted at the Media and Communications Department of the Klagenfurt University using several public speaking questionnaires, as well as heartbeat measures. The experiment, which included two different groups of students exposed to improvisation theater techniques and exposure therapy respectively, produced significant results regarding the effectiveness of two different approaches to modifying PSA. The comparative analysis of the initial and final results in both experimental and control group shows that there is statistical difference in the impact of the performances on the neutral audiences. Finally, the improvisation techniques have proven to be a significant factor in improving individual performances and are recommendable as a part of public speaking anxiety treatment.
