Sažetak
The article discusses the poetic legacy of Theodor Seuss Geisel, more widely known as Dr. Seuss, who during his lifetime produced a great number of children's books which are closely linked to the concept of American childhood, yet were never truly recognized in academic circles for their literary value. Due to its extreme popularity Dr. Seuss' work was instead labeled as either educational or plainly entertaining. However, the analysis of The Lorax, an environmentalist fable written in 1971, reveals satirical subversiveness, distinct Seussian style, poetic meter and philosophy of nonsense which characterized the entire opus of this children's writer and created a distinct mode of expression revealing universal truths and issues. In other words, Dr. Seuss was a poet who was able to leave a deep imprint on (children's) literature and entirely enjoy it each time he did.
