Sažetak
Ultrasound guided Fine Needle Aspiratin Biopsy is useful method for detection lesions of parathyroid gland. The aim of study was to present cytological picture of parathyroid gland in patients with chronic renal failure on haemodialysis. During 5 years period (2002.-2006.) in Department of nuclear medicine and radiation protection of University hospital Zagreb we performed FNAB under ultrasound guidance of parathyroid gland in 177 patients. 29 patients were on haemodialysis. All were analyzed in May Grunwald- Giemsa Stained smears with the use of Grimelius cytochemistry. The value of parathormon in puncture was also determinate. In patients on haemodialysis we made diagnosis of parathyroid hyperplasia in 27 cases. In 2 cases the cellularity of the smears was insufficient for interpretation. In all cases values of parathormon were elevated. FNAB under ultrasound guidance is simple and fast method in diagnosis of parathyroid lesions on condition that the sample is representative. Hyperplasia of the parathyroid glands and increased secretion of parathyroid hormone is a consequence of chronic renal failure.
