Sažetak
The effect of silica fume, a by-product in production of ferrosilicon, on corrosion resistance to sulfate attack of the Na2SO4 and MgSO4 solutions was examined in PC mortars containing limestone or without it. The resistance to sulfate attack was determined for mortar samples with different additions of silica fume by measuring expansion and the changes in the elasticity modulus. The phases formed and the microstructural changes in the mortar samples exposed to sulfate corrosion were examined by means of DTA, XRD and SEM methods. Mortars containing more than 5 mass% of SiO2, or simultaneously limestone and more than 2 mass % of SiO2, were established to have a good sulfate resistance and show lower expansion than the sulfate-resisting mortars regardless of the type of the sulfate solution.
