Sažetak
The report deals with an extensive investigation into the effects on the mechanical properties and durability of PC mortar/concrete when the industrial waste materials such as silica fume and fly ash, both emerged from the Croatian Ferroalloys Works and a coal-fired Thermal power Plant respectively, were used as a cement replacement. A series of chemical, physical and mechanical experiments was used to create new types of concrete with enhanced mechanical and chemical properties and durability, starting from raw materials characterisation, design and optimisation of mix proportions, the microstructure and strength development, chemical resistance and the durability of concrete structures exposed to aggressive media of sulphate and chloride, up to developing criteria for acceptance of a new products at conditions of exploitation. The calculation of the efficiency factor (k-factor), which indicates by how many weight units of the cement content be reduced for each weight of silica fume or fly ash added, make it possible to quantitative prediction of concrete properties and has practical significant. The results obtained here provide a new engineering admission to creation of new types of concrete with enhanced mechanical, chemical and climatically durability, especially in both the sulphate and chloride reached coastal region. The significance of this investigation lies in its application in choosing and composing of mixture composition, in optimising process conditions relative to the product quality required, waste management, resource utilization and energy saving, and environmental protection
