Sažetak
The seasonal occurrence of mosquitoes was determined in Osijek between 1995 and 2004. Mosquitoes were caught using dry ice baited CDC-traps ; twenty species were collected during the study. Sampling was carried out at nine localities twice a month from May to September. The seven most common species in the city of Osijek were Aedes vexans, Ochlerotatus sticticus, Culex pipiens complex, Anopheles maculipennis complex, Ochlerotatus cantans, Ochlerotatus caspius and Ochlerotatus excrucians, which together accounted for 99% of the total mosquitoes collected. Over the 10-year period, the mosquito abundances fluctuated seasonally. On average, all twenty species displayed three peaks of abundance: at the end of May, in the middle of July and in the middle of September. The seasonal dynamics of the dominant taxon Ae. vexans (76% of the total mosquito fauna) reflected those of all the remaining species. As for individual species, peak abundances occurred in May and July for Oc. sticticus, at the end of July for Cx. pipiens complex, between June and July and August for An. maculipennis complex, and in May for Oc. cantans and Oc. excrucians. Oc. caspius had three or four annual peaks: in spring, at the end of June, in July, and in autumn (September).
