Sažetak
The False Ringlet Coenonympha oedippus is one of the most threatened butterflies in Europe. It has disappeared from many locations due to habitat loss. In Croatia, the species lives only on eight isolated wet meadows of Northern Istria. The population study was conducted during summer in 2001 and 2002. The standard mark-release- recapture technique was used foe estimating the population and mobility analyzing. All of the captured individuals were uniquely marked. No movement between patches has been established and the study showed that False Ringlet is very sedentary. Preliminary investigations of population density and registered changes in environment (primarily meadow overgrowing with shrubs) indicate the need for conservation efforts. Evidently the localities are more isolated each year so key actions such as regular and well-timed mowing is essential for the survival of Coenonympha oedippus in Croatia.
