Sažetak
Because of particular concentracion of natural and historical values, the Mediterranean is grown up as one of the most developed tourist geographical regions on the Earth, which participation in the international tourist market goes more than 30%. Development of mass coast tourism and extensive construction of tourist capacities and infrastructure, particularly expressed during last 2-3 decades of the 20th century, brought to the big saturation of space and degradation of life environment of above aerea. As a consequence, today Mediterranean is faced to great challange: how to preserve key natural and cultural values which make the basis of tourist making money and, in the same time, to keep high reputation on more concurent, more selected and globalized tourist market. This paper is analizing the most important effects of tourism on the life environment and problems aggravate the application of concept of the sustainable development. There are also shown the most important ionstruments, measures and activities of sustainable tourism management which application can achieve development of this activity and protection of life environment and possible harmony. Particular attention is dedicated to the key institutional and organizational factors that have crucial role in defining guidelines, objectives and tasks related to protection and sustainable usage of the Mediterranean Sea with its coastal aereas, as well as the strenghtening of collaboration between Mediterranean countries because of coordinate resolving of actual problems and tracing the paths of the future development.
