Sažetak
New perceptions regarding the healthy way of living have altered the perspective of quality free time spending. The concept of active rest gains in importance and acceptance level. On the other hand, the development of competitive sport resulted in the organisation of various sporting events ranging from those of local character to mega sporting events, and contemporary sporting events, as well as active rest, have a significant role in sport tourism. Such developments have affected the activities of all who work in sport tourism and created new communication-specific aspects in sport tourism at all levels. This paper will try to outline the basic prerequisites for successful communication – from general to managerial communication. Further, it will try to show how the cultural trends shape the new trends in tourism, and how this eventually influences communication performance. Sport management, that is, a specific management connected with sporting activities whose basic task is to co-ordinate the sporting activities, has several basic functions, among them also communication. Within the context of sport tourism, developing a certain level of communication skills will also help realise all activities, such as rendering accommodation services, organising sport and recreation activities, etc., in the best possible way. The management of a sport organisation in sport tourism requires various types of communication between all segments and at all levels. The possible ways of communication between sport management and other types of destination management will be exemplified.
