Sažetak
Special interest tourism has appeared recently as an alternative to mass tourism, but also as a quality-specific complement to certain mass-tourism types. Although in tourism theory there is no complete agreement regarding the notion of special interest tourism, it is most frequently the specific motives of tourism-ü needs that require certain forms of tourism offer. In this context recognizable special interest tourism types appear such as sport tourism in its various forms, yachting, health tourism, rural tourism, religious tourism, congress tourism, business tourism, etc. In Croatia, as the tourist receiving country, special interest tourism has only recently started to develop, more frequently as a complement to mass tourism then as the result of a specific tourism strategy. The basic hypotheses in this paper are that: a) special interest tourism in Croatia is not in congruence with the needs and possibilities of development, and b) special interest tourism development management on the basis of the tourism destination development plans positively affects the sustainable development of tourism. Starting from the set hypotheses, the parameters of the development of some special interest tourism types will be analysed in this paper: winter sport tourism, golf tourism, wellness and nautical tourism. The analysis will point to the underutilized possibilities of their development and to the influence of special interest tourism on the sustainable development of tourism in Croatia.
